What Happened To Neel Acharya Purdue Student?
The tragic incident involving Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, unfolded on a Sunday morning.
The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office received a call around 11:30 am about a potentially deceased body at 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a “college-aged male” lifeless on Purdue’s campus.
The following Monday, an email was shared within the university’s computer science department by the interim head, Chris Clifton.
He sorrowfully informed students and faculty of Acharya’s passing, extending his condolences to all those affected. He remembered Acharya as a “driven individual and academically talented.”
Aryan Khanolkar, Acharya’s friend and roommate, described him as a “loving, charismatic soul,” who will be deeply missed.
As mentioned above, Acharya was pursuing a double major in computer science and data science at the John Martinson Honors College.
Clifton revealed that he had received an email from the Office of the Dean of Students confirming Acharya’s death.
The deceased individual found matched Neel’s description and was carrying Neel’s ID. Clifton was shocked at Acharya’s passing, calling it a “real loss to our community.”
As for his death cause, the Tippecanoe County Coroner stated that there was no suspicion of foul play in the death of Neel Acharya.
Meanwhile, several sources have reported that the Purdue University student’s death cause might be hypothermia, which has not been confirmed.
Neel Acharya Mother Asked For Help On Social Media
In a heartfelt plea on social media, Goury Acharya, the mother of the late Neel Acharya, reached out for assistance.
She posted on Sunday, “Our beloved son, Neel Acharya, has been unaccounted for since yesterday, 28 Jan (12:30 AM EST).”
“He is a student at Purdue University in the US. His last known location was at Purdue University, where an Uber driver reported dropping him off,” Gaury added.
“We are desperately seeking any information about him. If you have any knowledge of his whereabouts, please assist us,” Neel Acharya’s mother went on.
In response to her plea, the Consulate General of India in Chicago assured her that they were in contact with the authorities at Purdue University and Neel’s family.
“We will provide all the support and help that we can,” said the Consulate General.

The assailant, believed to be a homeless man, repeatedly struck the student with a hammer, leading to his death.

The attacker, identified in the video as a homeless individual, was swiftly apprehended by the police, thanks to the clear visual evidence provided by the footage.
A source close to the investigation confirmed that law enforcement acted promptly and decisively in response to the incident.
Following the tragic event, the remains of the deceased student, who was an Indian citizen, were repatriated to his family in India on 24 January, as informed by the same source.
