Before being married in February 1948, Iris and Carl Apfel dated for less than five months. 

Less than five months after their first date, the couple met in 1947. They married after a brief but intense courtship.

Following their joint textile company launch, they were soon asked to join the White House decoration crew. 

Together, Iris and Carl traveled the globe to find materials for their business and decorated for nine presidential regimes. 

Carl passed away at the age of 101, yet his influence is still felt deeply in Iris’s life. Five years after his passing in September 2021, she gave an interview with PEOPLE.
