Efeso Collins was a prominent figure in New Zealand politics, notably serving as a Member of Parliament for the Green Party from 2023 onwards.
Prior to his parliamentary role, Collins was active in local governance, having served as a councilor for the Manukau ward on the Auckland Council between 2016 and 2022.
His political ambition led him to contest the 2022 Auckland mayoral election, though he was unsuccessful.

The passing of Fa’anānā Efeso Collins, aged 49, leaves behind his beloved wife, Fia, their two precious daughters, Kaperiela and Asalemo, his mother, Lotomau, and a large extended family.
This courageous man’s absence will be deeply felt by his immediate family and wider community and network of friends.
Born and raised in Ōtara, a suburb of Auckland, Collins hailed from a humble background as the youngest of six children.
Just six days ago, during his Maiden speech, Efeso fondly mentioned his late father, Tauiliili Sio, and brother Thomas, acknowledging their presence from Heaven.
He shared his heartfelt reflections on his family’s influence and the values they instilled in him, shaping his journey in public service.
Residing in Otāhuhu with his wife Fia, aged 38, who works as a diversity and inclusion specialist, and their daughters Kaperiela, nine, and Asalemo, two, Efeso’s life was a testament to resilience and determination.
Despite early challenges, including skepticism from a teacher about his academic prospects, Efeso excelled, earning an MA and even serving as the student association president at the University of Auckland.

Their love story began in 2004 when Efeso was running youth mentoring programs, and Fia, a student of education at the time, joined as a mentor.
Although it took a few years for their romance to blossom, their shared commitment to uplifting their Samoan community and their mutual admiration for each other’s dedication to service brought them closer together.
Fia, who holds the Samoan tulafale chiefly title of Vasa from the village of Puapua on Savai’i, made a lasting impression on Efeso with her passion and compassion.
In his pursuit to impress her, he even learned to referee netball, reflecting his willingness to go the extra mile for love.
