Former Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard Secord Struggled With Illness Caused By Vascular Dementia

Richard Secord, a well-known military officer involved in several controversial aspects of U.S. military and political history, left this world in 2024.

He was a U.S. Air Force officer noted for a career specializing in covert military operations. Also, he held major responsibility for the conduct of the Vietnam War by overseeing operations in Laos.

Moreover, the general, 92 years old at the time of death, had been an in-patient in an assisted living center at Daytona Beach.

Also, assisted living facilities serve those who need help with activities of daily living but want to retain some independence. 

Older adults like Secord may need assistance in living facilities due to age-related issues, chronic illnesses, or disabilities.

These facilities also serve individuals recovering from surgery or those requiring memory care. His state of health before his demise has not been made public. 

Richard Secord Struggled With Mental Health Amid Family Disputes

Richard Secord’s son, John Secord, took note that family disputes greatly affected his dad’s mental health. 

He said that the U.S. Military in charge was diagnosed with vascular dementia, and that added to the stress of his situation. 

Furthermore, his son claimed he relocated his father six hours away from his former home without telling other family members and friends. 

Mr John Secord was accused of manipulating and hurting the ex-officer’s well-being. Some legal issues dragged on over his grandson, Korfronta Secord.  

Reportedly, John manipulated his father, who was not in a position to manage his affairs because of his deteriorated state of health. 

As per health research, Vascular dementia is often connected to heart problems and strokes.

If someone has vascular dementia, they could be at risk of dying at any point due to these issues.

However, his family hasn’t mentioned any specific illness or the cause of his death.
